Why was the struggle for Jersuleam so important to the Isreali's?
The struggle for Jersalem was so important because it was a Jewish holy city and if the Isreali army could defeat the Arab legion stationed in Jersalum then the rest of the legions would crumble as well. They also planned on capturing it because it would forstall a peace plan that would gurantee an Isreali conflict.
Who won and who lost in the war?
The Isreali's gained 79% rather than the 55% the British mandated to them. The Isreali's won the war and gained loads of cofidence and land which meant more power over the Arabs. The Arbs lost the war along with their allies (Syria, Lebanon, and transjordan). They lost a lot of the land Britian gave to them to their most hated enemy.
What was agreed under the armictice?
Isrealiand Egpyt came up with pre-war boundaries and the Arab Palestinian Gaza strip was taken by Egpyt. Then Transjordan had a talk with Isreali and they gained control of the West Bank and the oldest part of Jersaluem while isreal mantained the more modern part of Jersulam. Bewteen isreal and Syria the UN made Syrian troops withdraw from the Isreali conquered areas and then they created a buffer zone bewteen the two countries.
Why was there no peace treaty?
The main reasons why their was no permaint agreement beacause of the border and refugee problem bewteen Arabs and Jews. The other reasons were the bitterness that the Arabs held of losing the war. Then another factor consisted of the Isreali's not wanting to lose any land to their borders, the Arabs. The Isreali's also felt that they didn't need a permant agreement they just wanted to focus on establishing a new state.
Which side had the stronger military force?
The Arabs had three countries fighting with them and their military which was all much larger than the tiny Isrealis military. Isreal also had less weapons so they were at a total disadvantage against the goliath arabs.
What were the war aims of King Abdullah of Jordan?
The King had alter pritories such as overtaking the Arab nations and overtake their "government" and during the war they were not goint to intrude into the isreali's claims of Jersaulem.
